    1. I won this book in a Giveaway almost 2 years ago, and it took me that long to start reading it My honest opinion is that the book is ok Not an amazing read, but still It was a bit boring at times, and circular, and the language exhausted me because it was too dense when I think it didn t had to But still I recommend it, because one should not judge a book by its review, one has to read it to really have an opinion.I want to thank the author for sending me the book and as I read the final page wh [...]

    2. I received this book in a Giveaway I love historical fiction, and China in the early 20th century was a fascinating blend of cultures and nationalities This novel embodies all the influences of the time, from the wealthy foreigners, to the struggling middle class and the lowly coolies, as well as the thriving underworld of the tongs.Zephyr Davies, a wealthy American playboy who fancies himself to be an amateur sleuth, is caught up in the murder of a high born Chinese woman The number one suspect [...]

    3. Set in Shanghai and Honolulu in 1928 Chinese Puzzle is an interesting read on a historical basis The interactions between the Chinese people themselves and the foreigners as described by the author, is difficult to understand by today s standards. The main character Zepher Davies a wealthy American foreigner is an amateur detective who is asked to help a young Eurasian woman prove her innocence Characters abound throughout the book and I appreciated that the first pages of the book had a listing [...]

    4. First of all I have to tell you that I won a free signed copy of this book through the Giveaways. This book was very interesting Put into the scene of the early 20th century China Shanghai and Honolulu made the story very interesting The main line was well woven because I could not imagine who Davies is after and how things will work out.Although there were some clumsy parts and the reason I do not give 5 stars is the name No Sin is introduced a way too early even before Davies re names him.But I [...]

    5. Along with the author s very unique and suspenseful writing style, Chinese Puzzle shows how much he gets into the psychology of his characters and into the macabre historical events of Shanghai in the nineteen twenties. You feel like you are on a cat and mouse treasure hunt in the way he weaves you around in No Sin s trials and tribulations of his daily life and existence in China. The author is also masterful in getting you to utilize all of your senses in his descriptions.
