Charles Roger Hargreaves 9 May 1935 11 September 1988 was an English author and illustrator of children s books, notably the Mr Men and Little Miss series, intended for very young readers He is Britain s third best selling author, having sold than 100 million books.Hargreaves was born in a private hospital at 201 Bath Road, Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire, England, to Alfred Reginald and Ethel Mary Hargreaves, and grew up in High Lees, 703 Halifax Road, also in Cleckheaton, outside of which there now is a commemorative plaque He spent a year working in his father s laundry and dry cleaning business before starting out in advertising But his original ambition was to be a cartoonist and, in 1971, while he was working as the creative director at a London firm, he wrote the first Mr Men book, Mr Tickle He initially had difficulty finding a publisher but, once he did, the books became an instant success, selling over one million copies within three years and spawning a BBC animated television series, narrated and voiced by Arthur Lowe.By 1976, Hargreaves had quit his day job In 1981, the Little Miss series of books began to appear It, too, was made into a television series in 1983, which was narrated by John Alderton, who, with Pauline Collins, voiced the Men and Misses, respectively Although Hargreaves wrote many other children s stories, including the Timbuctoo series of twenty five books, John Mouse, and the Roundy and Squary books, he is best known for his 46 Mr Men books and 33 Little Miss books. With his wife, Christine, Hargreaves had four children Adam, Giles, and twins Sophie and Amelia The first of the Mr Men characters is reported to have been created when Adam asked his father what a tickle looked like Hargreaves drew a figure with a round orange body and long, rubbery arms, which became Mr Tickle. After Hargreaves died of a sudden stroke in 1988, Adam continued writing and drawing the Mr Men and Little Miss characters in new stories However, in April 2004, Christine sold the rights to the Mr Men characters to the UK entertainment group Chorion, for 28 million.

    1. 3,5 Stars Little Miss Princess is a sweet, short and cute story Although i m not entirely sure about the message that the plot conveys to children, i see that the main theme was about helping others and being generous no matter what The illustrations are also very nice and girly.Of course the series is about peculiar characteristics that dominate someone s personality, and i find this genuine, still though, i would prefer if the princess was active or stronger and assertive, in a good way All i [...]

    2. Rating based on the child s reaction 4.5 stars. She really enjoyed this book, she even tried reading it to me herself Bless her she is the sweetest Laughed at parts of this book, mainly when I made noises to act out scenes etc

    3. We love all the Mr Men and Little Miss Whilst I would prefer this Princess to be modern day stand on her own two feet, it is quite funny and easily relatable for kids We love giggling over mopping the carpet and putting the milk in the oven

    4. Retour la lecture de la collection des Mme M Fid le au souvenir que j en avais, bien et divertissant avec un style d illustration unique Demeure tout de m me bien simple, mais un clasique efficace et abordable pour les petits.

    5. I bought this little booklet in Belgium and it looks really cute especially the illustrations I bought it because of that and because it s in French and I thought I d practise my French reading a bit. However, the story itself is kind of strange What is the moral supposed to be That being pretty and rich and letting yourself be served is a cute, admirable thing WEIRD On the surface it s a cute enough tale, but its message to children is dubious.Completely agree with this review Dang little prince [...]

    6. Dang little princess, open your eyes and SEE what everyone is doing for you Then LEARN how to do those very things, so next time you want to help someone that could use your help, you would indeed be HELPFUL All you guys, stay away from this one, as far away as you can And Aleyda, I will not read you this book again, I don t want you to get any ideas in your head that others surround you just to please you, work for you, do things for you, etc You need to learn how to do most things for yourself [...]

    7. I absolutely loved these Mr Men and Little Miss books I remember getting them from my granny every week There was so much from these simple characters, I remember filling my little bookshelf with all these books making sure I had got them all in right order I wish I still had these books but somehow most of them got lost with many house moves or my mum gave the rest away If I ever have kids, I will make sure they get the chance to experience these wonderful, colourful books.

    8. Little Miss Princess isn t rude or spoiled as a princess might be expected to be instead, she s kind and generous Her attempts to be generous and helpful get sidetracked, however, because she isn t very experienced out in the real world she s never made a bed, she s never been grocery shopping, and so on Perfect fit with all the other Mr Men Little Miss books.

    9. Wow Nothing about overcoming stereotypes and being better than your upbringing in here No If you re a princess, you re useless at everything except bossing people around Play to your strengths, I guess.

    10. Little Miss Princess is a kind hearted princess who wants to give back She helps people and they are extremely grateful But she always feels like she s not doing enough and one day when helping Mr Bump things become a challenge since she is a princess after all She does her best though.

    11. I did not like this book because I do not like princesses I also did not like this book because Little Miss Princess was a princess.

    12. At one point in the story Little Miss Princess says Oh dearI m just no good at anything It s a crushing indictment by Mr Hargreaves of Britain s monarchy Indeed
